DAY 2: SANCTUARY OLONANA CAMP, MASAI MARA

Masai Mara

The Masai Mara together with Tanzania’s Serengeti form Africa’s most famous wildlife park, the Masai Mara National Reserve. The image of acacia trees dotting endless grass plains epitomizes Africa for many, then add a Maasai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further. The undeniable highlight of the Masai Mara is undoubtedly the annual wildebeest migration traversing the vast plains of the Serengeti and the Masai Mara.

It is known as the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with more than a million animals following the rains. Large prides of lions, elephants, giraffes, gazelles and eland can also be spotted in the reserve. Aside from horse riding safaris and traditional vehicle safaris, hot-air ballooning over the Mara plains has become almost essential.

Day Itinerary

After breakfast. Transfer to Wilson Airport to board your flight to Masai Mara National Reserve departing at 1000hrs to arrive at 1100hrs. Upon arrival, you will be met by Olonana Camp driver guide who will transfer you to the Camp for lunch. Afternoon shared game drives in Masai Mara. Dinner and overnight at Sanctuary Olonana Camp.

Game drives, cultural visits, bush dinners, sundowners, scenic flights and balloon rides, Olonana makes for a wonderful African safari. From the chef’s organic garden, to the use of sustainable energy sources, Sanctuary Olonana sets a new standard with its light environmental ‘footprint’. Over the years Sanctuary Olonana has also built strong relationships with the local Maasai tribes by working with them to improve their level of health-education and lifestyle, and securing unrivalled access to their culture and local knowledge.

DAY 3: SANCTUARY OLONANA CAMP, MASAI MARA

Day Itinerary

Immerse yourself in the splendour of the Masai mara, one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife reserves. Discover the park’s iconic creatures on an Optional Hot Air Balloon safari at sunrise, and set out in a 4×4 on morning and afternoon safaris through the golden grasslands. With luck, spot all of Africa’s “Big five”—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino, and buffalo.

After breakfast venture out on an early morning shared game drives safari to track the animals that traversed the savannah during the night. View ungulates like Thomson’s and Grant’s gazelles, topi and eland antelopes -as well as their stealthy predators – at one of their most active times of the day. During the first hours of the morning, the savannah is filled with a special animation. This is when the larger predators hunt for their food, before the temperature becomes too hot for any excessive physical activity. This is the time we have the highest chances of watching a hunt in action (also likely in the early evening). The colours of the landscape are also more accentuated, and help us to take great photographs.

Continue your exploration as you head out for an afternoon shared game drive safari through vast, discovering the timeless landscape, acacia-dotted plains, driving past throngs of wildebeest, zebra, and giraffes; and keep an eye out for lions, elephants, and the rest of the African “big five.” In the evening, relax at the Sanctuary Olonana Camp and enjoy scenic views of the rolling plains. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

The landscape is dry and semidesertic in Kalama Conservancy, except for a scattering of small bushes, and the narrow strip of greenery bordering the Ewaso Nyiro River. The appeal of Kalama Conservancy lies in its wildlife, unique to the area. This includes the Grevy’s or Imperial zebra, whose stripes are finer than those of its cousin the Burchell zebra; The Gerenuk or giraffe-antelope, with its peculiar manner of feeding on leaves while standing on its hind legs; the pretty Reticulated Giraffe; the masked Oryx, and the blue-legged Somali Ostrich. Another inhabitant of the park is the Crocodile, the boss of the river, lying camouflaged in wait for any unsuspecting victim to come its way. We could chance upon some secretive leopards, lying hidden between the branches of the trees, while impalas and Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelles innocently feed nearby.

Itinerary Changes:

Although every effort is made to adhere to schedules, it should be noted that the hoteliers in East Africa may be obliged to occasionally change routes on safaris as dictated by changing conditions.

Such conditions may be brought about by seasonal rainfall on bush tracks, airfields and in game areas, by game migrations from one region to another, or airline or other booking problems, etc. AMA Safaris Ltd will communicate with you for such tour itinerary/tour program or accommodation changes

NOTE: – Please note that some bookings might straddle between two seasons. Making the below seasonal quotations on accommodation NOT APPLICABLE. In such cases, please contact us for TAILOR-MADE QUOTATIONS cutting across seasons.

We thank you for the opportunity to present this program and trust that you will find it creative and exciting!!
Looking forward to organizing a memorable incentive for you!
