DAY 1: GIRAFFE MANOR, NAIROBI    

Nairobi

Situated in along the Nairobi River in beautiful Kenya, the capital of Nairobi is East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city. It serves as an excellent starting point for African safari trips around Kenya. Nairobi is Africa’s 4th largest city and is a vibrant and exciting place, and although it has developed a reputation which keeps tourist visits brief, there are some fascinating attractions: its cafe culture, unbridled nightlife, the National Museum, the Karen Blixen Museum,Giraffe Centre and most notably just 20 minutes from the city centre wild lions and buffalo roam in the world’s only urban game reserve. Make sure you pay a visit to the elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

DAY 3: ELEWANA SAND RIVER MASAI MARA, MASAI MARA

Masai Mara

The Masai Mara together with Tanzania’s Serengeti form Africa’s most famous wildlife park, the Masai Mara Game Reserve. The image of acacia trees dotting endless grass plains epitomises Africa for many, then add a Maasai warrior and some cattle to the picture and the conversation need go no further. The undeniable highlight of the Masai Mara Game Reserve is undoubtedly the annual wildebeest migration traversing the vast plains of the Serengeti and the Masai Mara. It is known as the largest mass movement of land mammals on the planet – with more than a million animals following the rains. Large prides of lions, elephants, giraffes, gazelles and eland can also be spotted in the reserve. Aside from horse riding safaris and traditional vehicle safaris, hot-air ballooning over the Mara plains has become almost essential.

Day Itinerary

After breakfast, transfer to Wilson airport for your flight to Masai Mara departing at 1000hrs arriving approximately 1100hrs.

Overnight: Elewana Sand River Masai Mara

Situated along the banks of a river from which it has taken its name, Elewana Sand River Masai Mara is located within the Masai Mara National Reserve in Kenya on a secluded and picturesque site. The camp enjoys stunning views over the Sand River and out to the neighbouring grassy hills and plains of Tanzania.

The camp sits on the migration route for the millions of wildebeest, zebra and Thompson’s gazelle that move between Serengeti and Maasai Mara every year. We awaken to the sounds of Africa and begin our day with a morning game drive, affording an intimate and profoundly personal bond to the world of the wild. Our expert driver guide is hard at work, pointing our each individual miracle of the land that we are now part of.

An extensive afternoon game drives run explore the depths of the deep Masai mara. Everywhere there are animals, including monkeys and yes birds…but look closely and you will thrill to the huge jungles cats- Lions, Leopards and cheetahs just watching the earth go by. And go by it does: rhino, gazelles, antelopes and massive elephants by the herds. There are animals in the trees, on the wing, camouflaged in the bush, in rivers and streams.

DAY 5: ELEWANA ELEPHANT PEPPER CAMP, MARA NORTH CONSERVANCY

Mara North Conservancy

Situated in southwest Kenya, the Mara North Conservancy is a beautiful private wilderness area spanning more than 30 000hectares. It is home to a spectacular array of plants, reptiles, birds and mammals; including elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion, leopard, cheetah and large concentrations of wildebeest, zebra, gazelle and other migratory wildlife. Leopard Gorge, in the heart of the conservancy, is famous as the setting of countless BBC Big Cat Diaries and National Geographic documentaries. Neighbouring the well-known Maasai Mara National Reserve, this conservancy is vital for sustaining the famous Serengeti wildebeest migrations as well as the highly threatened African wild dog and black rhino.

Day Itinerary

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Elephant Pepper Camp with game drive en route.  Arrive at the camp in time for lunch. Afternoon relaxation followed by an evening game drive. On this day you will get to visit a Masai village and interact with the Masai and learn more about their culture, practices and beliefs.

DAY 7: ELEWANA SERENGETI MIGRATION CAMP, NORTHERN SERENGETI

Northern Serengeti

The vast, rolling savannah of the Northern Serengeti, is known as the hub of the great migration. The landscape is characterized by vast stretches of savannah interspersed with acacia trees and riverine woodlands. Wildlife can be seen along the banks of the Mara River and visitors can view the annual spectacle of the half a million migrating wildebeest. Commonly spotted wildlife include: a multitude of plains game such as buffalo, zebra, gazelles, impala, giraffe as well as lion and leopard. Visitors can look forward to bird watching, hot air ballooning, game safaris and guided bush walks.

Day Itinerary

You will have an early morning breakfast on this day as the flight to Serengeti North departs from Masai Mara at 0845hrs.  Enjoy the scenic flight to Serengeti and arrive approximately 1100hrs. DAY 10: ELEWANA THE MANOR AT NGORONGORO, KARATU

Karatu

Travellers heading for the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater will inevitably pass through the town of Karatu in the green hills of Tanzania’s northern highlands. Presided over by the towering Ol Deani Volcano, this small, colourful town serves as a popular overnight stop for visitors exploring the area’s many game parks. DAY 12: ELEWANA TARANGIRE TREETOPS, TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK

Tarangire National Park

Located just a few hours’ drive from the town of Arusha, Tarangire is a popular stop for safaris travelling through the northern circuit on their way to Ngorongoro and the Serengeti. The park extends into two game controlled areas and the wildlife are allowed to move freely throughout. After the Serengeti, Tarangire has the greatest concentration of wildlife in Tanzania and in the dry season the Tarangire River is a magnet for thirsty wildlife. Large herds of elephants and migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland gather and not surprisingly the predators follow. This is also the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as oryx and gerenuk are regularly spotted.  Tarangire is also known for its spectacular baobab trees, and its breathtaking views of the Masaai Steppe and the mountains to the south.
