DAY 1: NEPTUNE PALM BEACH RESORT, DIANI BEACH

Diani Beach

Famous for its gorgeous palm trees and its powder white sand lapped by glistening azure waters, Diani Beach is a popular resort area resting on Kenya’s magnificent Indian Ocean shoreline. The area’s wonderfully warm waters and exquisite coral reefs provide an ideal environment for an array of exhilarating water-based activities including snorkeling, scuba diving and boat safaris where you can witness the richly diverse marine life for which the southern coast of Kenya is known. You’re likely to see turtles, mantas, barracuda and, if you are lucky, even the elusive and exceptionally large whale shark. Don’t miss: the Colobus Conservation which provides a sanctuary for these fascinating endangered primates; the Shimba Hills National Reserve which offers an exceptional and unforgettable safari experience; and the nearby Kisite Marine National Park close to the Tanzanian border.

AMA Safaris representative will meet you upon arrival in Moi International Airport Mombasa and transfer you to Neptune Palm Beach for dinner and overnight. Basis: – All Inclusive.

The Resort is approximately 40km south from Mombasa. Transfer time from Moi international airport some 45km away, is approx. 2hours. The nearby Ukunda Airstrip is approx. 8km away

The 60 fully air conditioned Sea-side and Garden-view rooms are organized into quaint cottages, each with their own private balconies overlooking the palms and the Indian Ocean. All rooms have double beds, telephones, room safes, high-speed wireless internet access, private balconies, ensuite bathrooms, Air conditioning, hair dryers and tea/coffee making facilities, televisions and mosquito nets. Extra beds/baby cots can be added on request.

The restaurant serves a buffet style breakfast from 7.00am to 10.00am and can be extended to noon on demand, lunch is served from 12.00pm to 3.00pm and dinner is served from 7.00pm to 10.00pm with different themes and cuisines. Soft drinks, fresh juices and imported wines are served with meals (all inclusive). Located by the pool side and overlooking the Indian Ocean, the Swahili furnished Mawimbi Deck is a lovely lounge where one can read and relax, afternoon teas, cappuccinos and espressos are served there and an a la carte menu is offered in the evenings with a choice of lobsters and prawns. DAY 3 – 4: ASHNIL ARUBA LODGE, TSAVO EAST NATIONAL PARK       

Tsavo East National Park

Separating northern and southern Kenya, Tsavo East National Park features bushy grasslands, open plains dotted with baobabs alternating with semi-arid acacia scrub and lush woodlands. The arid environment with its unique red earth creates spectacular photo opportunities. This park is home to some of the largest elephant and buffalo herds in Kenya. Tsavo East boasts a rich biodiversity and is said to be one of the last remaining wildernesses. Visitors can enjoy many wonderful attractions including: Galana River and Lugard’s Falls; the magnificent Yatta Plateau; and Mudanda Rock, a natural viewpoint which overlooks a much visited and photographed drinking hole. The south of the park is busier, while north of Galana is a remarkably quiet wilderness where visitors can enjoy this unspoilt beauty.

After breakfast. Drive to Tsavo East National Park to arrive in time for lunch at Ashnil Aruba Lodge. Late afternoon game drives in Tsavo East National Park. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Aruba Lodge.

Ashnil Aruba Lodge lies in the heart of Tsavo East National Park in Kenya. Its location is superb, just a couple of hours from the coast of Mombasa, 5hours leisurely drive from Nairobi and is located on the banks of Aruba Dam which was built in 1952 as a sport fishing recreational point in the park. Several watering holes nearby attract wildlife and spotting animals is easy because the park lies flat with savannah grassland.

DAY 5 – 6: KILAGUNI SERENA SAFARI LODGE, TSAVO WEST NATIONAL PARK

Tsavo West National Park

Located in Kenya’s Coast Province, Tsavo West National Park stretches for over 9000 square kilometres and is one of Kenya’s most rewarding parks. Tsavo West is covered in fairly thick bush but has spectacular natural scenery which includes volcanic cones, swamps, rocky outcrops and lava flows, mountains, river forest, plains, lakes, natural springs and wooded grassland. Although the game is not as easy to spot as in Tsavo East, it’s all here. Natural attractions include: the Mzima Springs, the main source of water for the Tsavo River; the Chaimu Crater; and the Roaring Rocks, offering panoramic views. Visitors can soak up the dramatic scenery, stay at one of the many fine lodges and spot a variety of wildlife.

In the land of Man Eaters Lions and Lava

Superbly situated in the lee of Mount Kilimanjaro and sheltered by the volcanic splendour of the Chyulu Hills, this classic stone-built lodge overlooks its own water hole, which is visited daily by elephants, buffalos and a wide variety of plains game. One of the first lodges ever to be built in a national park, the lodge is cool, tranquil and hushed for optimum game-viewing. It is also ideally placed for visits to all the park’s prime attractions.

DAY 7: OL TUKAI LODGE, AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK

Amboseli National Park

Located in the southern reaches of Kenya, the Amboseli National Park is renowned for its excellent variety of wildlife such as Masaai giraffe, elephant, lion and cheetah and not surprisingly it is one of Kenya’s most popular parks. The landscape of Amboseli is dominated by the majestic snow cap of Mount Kilimanjaro, as well as open plains, acacia woodland, swamps and the massif of Ol Doinyo Orok. The birding is excellent, especially closer to the lakes and swamps. The park is famous for being the best place in Africa to get close to large herds of elephants among other wildlife species. Other attractions of the park include opportunities to meet the Maasai people and soak up spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest free-standing mountain in the world.

Overnight: Ol Tukai Lodge  

Ol Tukai Lodge is one of the best spots in the world to watch elephants with the backdrop of Africa’s highest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro. Writers have described Ol Tukai and the surrounding Amboseli National Park as ‘a home for the gods’. A place of rugged beauty, abundant water, lush green grass and forest, set like an oasis in the surrounding savannah scrubland. To crown it all, this is where you get one of the world’s most awe-inspiring sights – dawn breaks and the sunsets over the 19,000-foot snow-capped dome of Africa’s highest mountain!

DAY 9: LAKE NAIVASHA SOPA RESORT, LAKE NAIVASHA      

Lake Naivasha

Lake Naivasha is the highest of the Great Rift Valley Lakes and despite having no outlet, it is one of only two Rift Valley freshwater lakes. This beautiful lake is fringed by papyrus and acacia trees, a unique geologic landscape and supports a vast array of over 450 bird species. It serves as the main drinking hole for wildlife in the area such as zebra, eland, hippo, waterbuck, buffalo and much more. Visitors can look forward to excellent game viewing, intriguing night safaris, boating excursions around the lake as well as to Crescent Island for spectacular bird watching opportunities. Other popular activities include: guided nature walks, horse riding, village visits and tours to neighbouring national parks.

Day Itinerary

After an early breakfast. Depart for Lake Naivasha to arrive in time for lunch. Afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Sopa Lodge.

Overnight: Lake Naivasha Sopa Resort        

Naivasha is a Masai name given to the area, denoting the characteristics of the lake. 21 cottages are built in a crescent shape, and each has four rooms, totalling 80 standard rooms and two suites.  Two of these rooms are suitable for the physically challenged.  Six of the 21 cottages have interconnecting rooms on the ground floor. Rock gardens feature vibrantly coloured flowers, which give a beautiful contrast to the greenery of the well-manicured lawns.  Monkeys play on the lawns and different species of birds chip in the trees.  Pathways wind between the open lawns and frangipanis, with aloes and proteas growing in abundance.  The acacia trees are plentiful in this area and provide welcome shade.  The stone exterior walls of the cottages are carried into the rooms.  Ground-floor rooms have two queen-size beds and a sunken living room at the front, which opens out on to the beautifully manicured lawns.

DAY 10: RHINO WATCH SAFARI LODGE, NYERI   

Nyeri

The thriving agricultural city of Nyeri lies nestled beneath the peaks of Mt Kenya and the Aberdares, in the country’s Central Highlands. The town is famous for its fragrant, flavoursome coffee, and there are a variety of tours, tastings, and other coffee experiences on offer. The city is also home to some excellent restaurants, as well as many good accommodation options. Nyeri often serves as a base for travellers wanting to see the magnificent Aberdare National Park – where nature lovers can explore diverse landscapes, including mountains, bamboo forests, and dramatic waterfalls. Visitors at the park may even be able to spot lion, leopard, elephant, East African wild dog, giant forest hog, and several bucks, monkey and bird species. With a colonial history, the town provides several interesting heritage sites and beautiful old buildings to discover.

Day Itinerary

After breakfast at the lodge. Depart for Solio Ranch a Conservation Wilderness to arrive in time for lunch at Rhino Watch Camp. Afternoon game drives in Solio. Dinner and overnight at Rhino Watch Camp.

Overnight: Rhino Watch Safari Lodge       

Set in the centre of the Kenyan highlands, Rhino Watch Safari Lodge boasts views of Mount Kenya and is 20 minutes away from Nyeri town. Accommodation options include tents, chalets and a honeymoon house. Guests can make use of the Wi-Fi at the restaurant and the TV room. Guests can enjoy an array of outdoor activities including game drives, bird watching, horse riding, giraffe rides, biking and hiking on Aberdare National Park.

DAY 11: IKWETA SAFARI CAMP, MERU NATIONAL PARK      

Meru National Park

Situated east of Meru, in beautiful Kenya, Meru National Park is one of the most popular parks in Kenya. Covering over 800 square kilometres, this park is wild and beautiful featuring diverse scenery with lush swamplands, thick jungle, vast savannah, and no less than thirteen rivers. Game to view includes some of the less regularly sighted animals like Oryx, lesser kudu, duiker, dik-dik and over 300 species of birds have been recorded. It is here that Else the famous lion from the book and movie ‘Born Free’ lived out the latter part of her life and is buried. Visitors can soak up the spectacular views of Mount Kenya, spot game along the Tana River and view the cascading Adamson’s Falls.

After breakfast. Depart for Meru National park to arrive in time for lunch at Ikweta Camp. Late afternoon game drives in Meru National Park. Dinner and overnight at Ikweta Safari Camp.

IKWETA Safari Camp is a convenient base for exploring the complete wilderness of Meru National Park, one of Kenya’s most beautiful national parks and the land of the “Big-Five” – elephant, rhino, lion, buffalo and leopard. The park is also a birdwatchers’ paradise with over 400 bird species reported.

The Camp comprises 10 spacious guest tents, tastefully decorated in safari-style with high quality furniture. Bathrooms are en suite with flush toilets and solar water heated showers. Each guest tent has a private veranda and faces East to enable guests enjoy the spectacular sunrises from the comfort of their beds.

DAY 13: ASHNIL SAMBURU CAMP, SAMBURU NATIONAL RESERVE   

Samburu National Reserve

Resting on the banks of the Ewaso Ng’iro River and neighbouring the Buffalo Springs National Park, Samburu National Reserve is remote, hot and arid. The reserve spans over 165kms² of spectacularly scenic landscape featuring rugged hills, undulating plains and riverine forests. The park is home to abundant wildlife including a variety of rare species such as the reticulated giraffe, the long necked gerenuk, Somali ostrich, Grevy’s Zebra and Beisa Oryx. Samburu was one of the homes of ‘Elsa the Lioness’, star of the bestselling book and award-winning movie ‘Born Free’. Visitors can enjoy viewing over 900 elephants, a variety of predators, and over 450 bird species.

After breakfast. Depart for Samburu National Reserve to arrive in time for lunch at Ashnil Samburu Camp. Late afternoon game drives in Samburu National Reserve. Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Samburu Camp.

Ashnil Samburu Camp sits in Buffalo Springs Game Reserve which takes its name from an oasis of crystal clear water at the western end of the reserve. It is separated from Samburu National Reserve by Ewaso Nyiro River and is less hilly and dense yet equally very attractive.

DAY 15: THE ARK LODGE, ABERDARE NATIONAL PARK       

Aberdare National Park

Located northeast of Nairobi, Kenya, the Aberdare National Park was created to protect the Aberdare Mountain Range, the peaks of which soar to 3930 metres. The landscape is characterised by steep forested slopes, expansive moors, and deep ravines scattered with cascading waterfalls, crystal-clear streams and rushing rivers. The park is inhabited by a variety of African wildlife such as: elephant, lion, spotted hyena, rhino, black leopard and the very elusive bongo antelope that lives in the high altitude bamboo forests. The park offers the perfect environment for picnics, camping in the moorlands, trout fishing in the rivers, and excellent bird watching with over 250 species of birds including hawks, eagles, sunbirds and plovers.

Day Itinerary

After breakfast. Depart for Aberdare National Park to arrive in time for lunch at Aberdares Country Club which is a base hotel for the Ark Lodge. Afternoon at leisure enjoying the facilities of the lodge. Dinner and overnight at Ark Lodge.

Overnight: The Ark Lodge  

The Ark has four viewing areas from which to observe the ever-present animal activity at the waterhole and saltlick. There is also a ground level hide – the perfect spot for the discerning photographer. From this vantage point, photos of animals can be taken at eye-level.

As described in the book, Haven Under the Hill, Monty Brown says, “In this intimate recess one can almost, but not quite, pat the animals, hear their sounds and smell the aroma of the night. This is a magical corner, where there is close contact with the essence that tells of unexplored Africa, and where, very often, the visitor may enjoy in solitary state the beauty of it all.”

So as not to miss any animal sightings, the resident guide will buzz your room when special animals come to the waterhole. Simply throw on your provided robe and slippers, grab your camera and view nightlife at the waterhole! The sister property to The Ark the Aberdare Country Club, is a short distance away and is the perfect place to spend an afternoon. Activities include a game walk on our 1300 acres, golf, and tennis, horseback riding, relaxing at our health club or simply enjoying the gorgeous gardens.

DAY 16: KAREN GABLES, NAIROBI      

Nairobi

Situated in along the Nairobi River in beautiful Kenya, the capital of Nairobi is East Africa’s most cosmopolitan city. It serves as an excellent starting point for African safari trips around Kenya. Nairobi is Africa’s 4th largest city and is a vibrant and exciting place, and although it has developed a reputation which keeps tourist visits brief, there are some fascinating attractions: its cafe culture, unbridled nightlife, the National Museum, the Karen Blixen Museum, Giraffe Centre and most notably just 20 minutes from the city centre wild lions and buffalo roam in the world’s only urban game reserve. Make sure you pay a visit to the Elephant orphanage operated by the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.

After breakfast. Drive back to Nairobi. Lunch and dinner own arrangements. Transfer to Karen Gables for overnight.
