DAY 2: BISATE LODGE, VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK
Volcanoes National Park
Bordering the Democratic Republic of Congo in Rwanda, the Volcanoes National Park is best known as a sanctuary for the World’s Rare Mountain Gorillas. Visitors flock here to experience a face to face encounter with these intriguing creatures.
The park is set high on the jungle-covered slopes of the volcanic Virunga Mountains. Highly regulated treks through the reserve allow visitors to spend an hour at a time with these incredible primates in their natural habitat. While the Gorilla’s are without a doubt the main drawcard, visitors can also look forward to exploring a network of scenic hiking trails, visiting the tomb of the world-famous Dian Fossey and the Karisoke Research Centre, and enjoying a beautiful day hike to the Crater Lake on Mount Bisoke.
Day Itinerary
The day will start with cup of coffee and later you will proceed to a city tour of Kigali including the visit of the genocide memorial. where you learn about Rwanda’s history Pre-colonial to 1994 genocide as well as other genocides in the world, visit the Kandt Museum, tour old Kigali and the Craft centres, visit the genocide memorial site Tour more and see the new developments; the recovery has been incredible, a true testament to humankind’s resilience. Later you will proceed to Volcanoes National Park arriving in time for Lunch at the lodge.
Overnight: Bisate Lodge
Bisate Lodge is located in the natural amphitheatre of an eroded volcanic cone and has dramatic views of the peaks of the volcanoes, Bisoke and Karisimbi, rearing up through the Afro-alpine forests of nearby Volcanoes National Park. Six luxurious en-suite Forest Villas maximise comfort and views, while retaining environmental principles and reflecting the culture of rural Rwanda. Each guest contributes to Bisate’s biodiversity conservation and local community projects – making a far-reaching impact on an iconic Critically Endangered species: the mountain gorilla.

After an early breakfast, you will be collected to the park headquarters to start your gorilla trekking adventure weaving through overhanging vines, moss-covered hagenia and giant lobelias that thrive in the tropical climate, our experienced trackers, they spent their entire lives in or close to this forest, soon bring us up close with the family.
Upon sighting the Gorillas, you will stay with them for a magical hour as they go about their daily life, feeding, playing, resting; raising their young. Coming face to face with a giant Silverback must truly be one of the greatest wildlife experiences on earth! In the afternoon, you will relax at the lodge.

Later you will trail through the routes created by the gorillas. You will have an hour with the mountain gorillas to capture another experience in the volcanoes NP
