DAY 1 – 3: GUNN’S CAMP, OKAVANGO DELTA

Okavango Delta

Lying in the middle of the largest expanse of sand on earth the Okavango Delta is one of Africa’s most amazing, sensitive and complex environments supporting a spectacle of wilderness and wildlife.

Unique as one of the world’s few inland deltas, the placid waters and lush indigenous forests offer a safe haven for innumerable bird and wildlife species. The Okavango Delta offers a number of activities for the visitor; game viewing, birding and fishing are all on offer.

One can experience this magical world of islands and waterways from land, air and water. Highlights include the elusive Sitatunga antelope which has found refuge in this pristine wetland ecosystem, while birds such as the African fish eagle, Pel’s fishing owl and many others provide a spectacular display.

Mokoros, motor boat cruises, game walks, fishing

Our True Delta activities include motor boat cruises, mokoro excursions and guided game walks.  The walks take place on Chief’s Island, in the Moremi Game Reserve, separated from Ntswi Island by the Boro River channel.  Each guide takes two guests by mokoro to different areas of the Reserve, where the focus is not solely on the larger species but learning about the habits of the smaller animals, sighting birds and learning their calls, as well as identifying plant-life and their medicinal uses.  Guides converse in English and offer a rare insight into the unique phenomenon of the Delta, with guests appreciating how important the “little things” are to this diverse ecosystem.

Overnight: Gunn’s Camp     

Overlooking the legendary Chiefs Island and bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, Gunn’s Camp is a small intimate camp with 6 luxury vintage-style safari tents. Each tent has its own private and spacious lounge and veranda. Activities on offer are mokoro trips with game walks, bush walks with picnic lunch, wilderness camping, sunset motorboat cruises and fishing. The camp is accessible from Maun by 15-20 minute scenic flight over Okavango Delta.

Adjacent to Moremi Game reserve on south eastern side of the Delta, overlooking the Gomoti River and its flood plains, the camps are located in a private concession of 272km² and have been designed to embrace the natural surroundings of the riverine forest.

The airstrip which will be servicing the two camps is approximately 20min. by chartered flight from Maun and 1h20min from Kasane. The camps are situated 45min game drive from the airstrip.
